Sichuan Province in southwest China is the home of Chengdu, giant pandas, Sichuan hotpot, spicy mala Sichuan peppercorn cuisine, and the base for visiting Mount Emei, Leshan Giant Buddha, Dujiangyan, Qingcheng Mountain, and Jiuzhaigou. A 4-7 day Sichuan itinerary is ideal: 2-3 days in Chengdu for pandas, tea houses, and street food; 1 day Leshan Giant Buddha; 1-2 days Emei Mountain if hiking; 1 day Dujiangyan + Qingcheng. Note: Sichuan food is intentionally numbing-spicy (málà) — ask for wēilà (mild) or bù là (no spice) if you can't handle heat. Chengdu is the transport hub with 1-3 hour high-speed trains to Leshan, Emei, and Chongqing.
Dense historical sites with museum + heritage routes. Focus on transfer planning and timed entry.
Great for slow city travel plus nature. Peak-season crowding is the main risk.
Great for dual-city travel (Guangzhou + Shenzhen). Strong business and payment infrastructure, but cross-city pacing matters.
Best for culture and history depth. Main friction points are reservation rules, ID checks, and cross-district commute time.
One of the easiest first stops in China: easy transit and smoother day-to-day logistics, but popular places still require timing and reservations.
