The Mid-Autumn Festival is China's second most important traditional holiday, centered on moon appreciation, family reunions, and mooncakes. It falls in September or October on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, with a 3-day public holiday. Moon-viewing spots like West Lake (Hangzhou) and waterfront areas get very crowded. Hotels see moderate price increases. Mooncake gift boxes are ubiquitous — it's common to receive them from business contacts or hotel staff. A beautiful time to travel if you enjoy evening cultural atmosphere.
