The Winter Solstice (Dongzhi) is a family-centered day focused on food: dumplings (jiaozi) in northern China and tangyuan in the south. There's a traditional saying: 'Winter Solstice is as big as New Year.' It's not a public holiday, so travel is unaffected, but restaurants may offer special winter solstice menus. An easy festival to experience — just find a good local dumpling restaurant and enjoy the seasonal atmosphere.
